Over 10,000 Vietnamese Children participated in “VNVC Vaccination Hero” art contest
The 1st season of the "I Draw Vaccination Heroes with VNVC" contest concluded with the enthusiastic participation of nearly 10,000 children aged 3-16 nationwide. Many parents reported gaining significant new knowledge about vaccines and immunization through participating with their kids.

At the closing ceremony of the 1st season of the "I Draw Vaccination Heroes with VNVC" contest, held on June 1st, 2024, Huynh Thi Nu, mother of 5-year-old Huynh Phuc An from Ho Chi Minh City, whose artwork won a gold medal, shared: "My child, Phuc An, drew a picture with the theme 'Wishing every child in the world receives vaccines”. I've taken An to volunteer programs from a young age, so An is empathetic towards those less fortunate. Having received full vaccinations, Phuc An wishes that all children in the world would also receive vaccines to gain super strength and become brave warriors.
The contest provided a valuable opportunity for children to proactively learn about immunization and understand its importance. My child became more cooperative and less hesitant about receiving vaccines. As a parent, my perspective shifted from passively accepting to actively seeking disease prevention through vaccination. Not only have I ensured my child's vaccinations are up-to-date, but I've also reviewed and updated my own and other adult family members' vaccination schedules. I'm truly grateful to VNVC for organizing such a meaningful program. While the contest has ended, the valuable knowledge about preventative vaccination will remain. I hope VNVC will organize more such contests to help children build better health, protecting their families and the community”.

The closing ceremony for the 1st season of the "I Draw Vaccination Heroes with VNVC" contest was held by VNVC across four locations for the presentation of four special prizes: VNVC Truong Chinh (Hanoi), VNVC Danang, VNVC Hoang Van Thu (HCMC), and VNVC Thot Not (Can Tho). At VNVC Danang, the artwork of Nguyen Tran Khanh Thy (13 years old, Danang) stood out, winning the Special Prize. Her impressive work depicted vibrant sunflowers supporting healthcare workers in their battle against viruses.
Nguyen Tran Khanh Thy shared that she chose sunflowers for her artwork because they always face the sun, reminding her of the resilience of cancer patients. She hopes her art piece highlights the importance of early vaccination to prevent cancers such as liver cancer caused by Hepatitis B virus and cervical cancer caused by HPV.
The contest also gave Thy and her mother the opportunity to learn about the vaccines she needs at her age. Khanh Thy mentioned she will be getting the HPV vaccine with her mother to protect her health early on.

The family of Thao Nguyen, whose 5-year-old daughter Nguyen Phuong Thao (from Go Vap District, HCMC) won a silver prize for her artwork, also learned about vaccines throughout the contest. Ms. Thao Nguyen shared, "When my child participated in the contest, my husband and I researched vaccine information to answer her questions. We learned that vaccines protect not only children, pregnant women, and the elderly, but also healthy men, and are crucial before studying or working abroad. The contest was a valuable activity providing a creative playground for my child and helping our family approach immunization in a fun and relatable way. Now, when we mention VNVC or vaccination, my child associates it with a “hero” protecting her. She’s more aware of protecting herself and the community from viruses and bacteria".

Other notable entries included Le Thi Ngoc Nhi's artwork, which depicted a stylized lung protected by vaccines, doctors, and nurses. Nhi explained that through her drawing, she hoped VNVC immunization centers would open everywhere, so everyone, including children in remote areas, could be vaccinated.

After more than three months and thousands of events, the 1st season of the "I Draw Vaccination Heroes with VNVC" contest concluded with nearly 10,000 entries. The judging panel and organizers awarded nearly 10,000 prizes totaling approximately 2 billion VND (~85,000 USD). Notably, VNVC Immunization System Center donated over 20,000 doses of high-quality vaccines to children nationwide. Additionally, VNVC organized art contests and health consultations for nearly 50,000 students in more than 200 schools across the country.
The success of the contest reaffirms VNVC's position as not only a safe, reputable, and high-quality immunization system, but also a leading vaccination provider in Vietnam, pioneering community education and engagement initiatives. VNVC raises awareness about the importance of vaccinations for children and adults, in line with global advancements in immunization. Through the "Vaccination Hero" art contest, young participants and their parents fostered creativity, patriotism, character development, and healthy habits, contributing to community well-being through immunization.
Building on the profound humanitarian values of the 1st season, VNVC Immunization Center System will continue organizing meaningful contests and activities to enhance vaccine and immunization awareness across all age groups, striving towards a "lifetime vaccination" approach to protect individuals, families, and communities.
